In this article, we will learn how to link an external domain (registered on a third party domain name registrar, not on Truvisibility) to your site on “Pages”. We will use the example of such domain name registrars as godaddy.com, bluehost.com, and namecheap.com.

How to Link a Domain Registered on godaddy.com to Your Site 

Here are the steps to follow.

1. Go to the site settings page and click “Connect Site to Custom Domain or Subdomain”.You will move to the first step of the domain setup wizard.

2. Enter the domain name in the input line, click “Next”.

3. As the domain is registered on a third party domain name registrar (not on Truvisibility), it is necessary to verify the domain ownership. You can do it in three ways: adding TXT Record to your DNS, uploading file to existing website, and adding meta tag to existing website. Let’s choose the first method. It is described in detail in the article Domain Ownership Verification.

4. Once the domain ownership is verified, you will find yourself on the next step. Here it is necessary to choose the connected domain level: the second or the third (subdomain).

5. If you select the second-level domain, you will see the page with instructions on domain connection by adding DNS records to your domain name registrar settings.

6. Go to the Domains tab on godaddy.com. Here you can find your domain. 

7. To go to your domain settings, click on the DNS tab and choose Manage Zones from the dropdown list.

8 . Enter your domain name in the field and click Search.

9. In the Nameservers section, click Change.

10. On the DNS Management page, click on the “Enter my own nameservers (advanced)” button.

11. Go to the wizard page with instructions and copy NS1 and NS2.

12. On the DNS Management page, paste NS1 and NS2 into the respective fields, then click “Save”. Updating the DNS can take up to 24 hours. Once the change occurs, you will receive notifications. 

13. If you don’t want to set up the NS records for your domain, click the “I don’t want to re-point my DNS” button. You will be directed to the page with instructions on how to link your domain to your site by the aid of A Record.

14. Go to the DNS Management page on godaddy.com and find the Records section.

15. In the Records section, click on the Edit icon in front of the A record. Erase the “Points to” field.

16. Go to the wizard page with instructions and copy the “Point to” value for the first A Record. Paste the copied value into the “Points to” field on godaddy.com. The TTL and Seconds fields are set as default. Click Save. .

17. It is needed to add the second A Record. To do this, click the Add button in the Records section. From the dropdown list, select “A” as the record type.

18. Go to the wizard page with instructions and copy the “Host” and “Point to” values for the second A Record. Paste the copied values into the “Host” and “Points to” fields respectively on godaddy.com. After that, click Save. Updating the DNS can take up to 24 hours. Once the change occurs, you will receive notifications.

19. If you choose the third-level domain, you will have to enter the domain name.

20. If the third-level domain name is entered correctly, you will see the page with instructions on domain connection by adding DNS records to your domain name registrar settings.

21. Repeat Steps 6-12.

22. If you don’t want to set up the NS records for your domain, click the “I don’t want to re-point my DNS” button. You will be directed to the page with instructions on how to link your domain to your site by the aid of A Record.

How to Link a Domain Registered on bluehost.com to Your Site 

Perform the following steps.

1. Go to the site settings page and click “Connect Site to Custom Domain or Subdomain”.You will move to the first step of the domain setup wizard.

3. As the domain is registered on a third party domain name registrar (not on Truvisibility), it is necessary to verify the domain ownership. 13. On bluehost.com, go to your domain settings. 

14. In the A (Host) section, click Add Record.

15. Go to the wizard page with instructions and copy the “Host” and “Point to” values for the first A Record. Paste the copied values into the respective fields on bluehost.com (the TTL field is set as default). Click Save.

16. On bluehost.com, create the second A Record, then go to the wizard page with instructions and copy the “Host” and “Point to” values for it. Paste them into the respective fields, click Save. Updating the DNS can take up to 24 hours. Once the change occurs, you will receive notifications.
17. If you choose the third-level domain, you will have to enter the domain name.

18. If the third-level domain name is entered correctly, you will see the page with instructions on domain connection by adding DNS records to your domain name registrar settings.

19. Repeat Steps 6-11.

How to Link a Domain Registered on namecheap.com to Your Site 

Follow these steps.

11. On namecheap.com, paste NS1 and NS2 into the Nameserver fields respectively. In the Host fields, enter “@”. Click on the check icons to save changes. Updating the DNS can take up to 24 hours. Once the change occurs, you will receive notifications. 

12. If you don’t want to set up the NS records for your domain, click the “I don’t want to re-point my DNS” button. You will be directed to the page with instructions on how to link your domain to your site by the aid of A Record.

13. On namecheap.com, go to the Advanced DNS tab and click on the Add New Record button. Choose A Record from the dropdown list. 

14. Go to the wizard page with instructions and copy the “Host” and “Point to” values for the first A Record. Paste the copied values into the respective fields on namecheap.com (the TTL field is set as default). After that, click on the check icon to save changes.

15. Click on the Add New Record button again and create the second A Record. 

16. On the wizard page with instructions, copy the “Host” and “Point to” values for the second A Record. Paste the copied values into the respective fields on namecheap.com. Click on the check icon to save changes. Updating the DNS can take up to 24 hours. Once the change occurs, you will receive notifications.

17. If you choose the third-level domain, you will have to enter the domain name.

18. If the third-level domain name is entered correctly, you will see the page with instructions on domain connection by adding DNS records to your domain name registrar settings.
